COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Forensics, Policing and Investigations at Liverpool John Moores University offers a comprehensive program that equips students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience required for careers in policing, forensic investigation, and the wider criminal justice sector. In the first year, students are introduced to core concepts such as policing and investigation, crime scene management, criminal law, forensic science, and the use of technology in policing, while also developing essential skills for success in the field. The second year builds on this foundation with modules focusing on community policing, investigative procedures, forensic methods, policy and practice, and the psychology of investigation, giving students a deeper understanding of both theoretical and applied aspects of the discipline. Optional study abroad opportunities allow students to gain international experience, broadening their perspectives on policing and investigation practices. In the final year, students undertake a research project and explore approaches to protecting vulnerable populations, offender management, and the application of forensics in investigations, while optional modules offer opportunities to study terrorism, comparative policing, intelligence applications, and serious and complex case investigations. Across all three years, the program combines hands-on practical experience with academic learning, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to enter professional roles with the knowledge, confidence, and critical thinking skills needed to excel in a dynamic and demanding field.
