COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Forensic Anthropology at Liverpool John Moores University is a comprehensive program designed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for careers in forensic science and anthropology. In the first year, students build a foundation in crime scene investigation, forensic science, genetics, biological anthropology, archaeology, and practical field skills, allowing them to understand the fundamentals of evidence recovery and human variation. The second year focuses on advanced topics such as forensic methods, human osteology, forensic human identification, human anatomy and genetics, and excavation techniques, while offering optional modules in trace evidence analysis and world archaeology. Students also have the opportunity to undertake a study year abroad or a sandwich year, gaining real-world experience in forensic anthropology and enhancing their professional development. In the final year, students engage in specialised modules including palaeopathology, advanced forensic anthropology, and a research project, while optional modules cover areas such as forensic bioscience, geoforensics, expert witness training, forensic anthropological genetics, and forensic archaeology. Throughout the course, practical, hands-on experience is emphasised, with extensive laboratory work, fieldwork, and exposure to real-life forensic scenarios. By combining academic rigour with applied experience, the program equips graduates with the expertise, analytical skills, and professional competencies required to pursue careers in forensic anthropology, crime scene investigation, research, and related scientific fields.
