COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Computer Science at Liverpool John Moores University provides a comprehensive education in both the theory and practice of computing, equipping students with the skills required for a wide range of careers in technology. In the first year, students develop a solid foundation in programming, computer systems architecture, data modelling, web development, and fundamental computer science concepts, alongside practical workshops and professional practice modules. The second year builds on this knowledge with core modules in database systems, operating systems, algorithm design, and automata, languages, and computation, as well as a collaborative group project to enhance teamwork and problem-solving skills. Optional modules such as object-oriented systems and secure software development allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests. Students also have the opportunity to undertake a sandwich year or study abroad, gaining practical experience in professional environments. In the final year, the curriculum focuses on advanced topics including computer graphics, visualization, and contemporary concepts in computer science, complemented by a substantial individual project that consolidates learning and demonstrates technical proficiency. Optional modules in artificial intelligence, network defense, applied cryptography, and embedded systems further allow for specialization.
