COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc in Climate and Environment Sciences at Liverpool John Moores University offers a structured, multi-year program designed to provide students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills to address climate-related challenges. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through core modules in ecology, earth systems, hazards, and environment, society, and sustainability, alongside skills-focused modules that prepare them for careers and research. The second year expands students’ understanding with modules on GIS and employability, project design and management, the cryosphere, catchments and oceans, and responding to climate change, complemented by a study of the impact of climate change on biological processes. Optional opportunities, including ecology field skills, study abroad semesters, and sandwich placements, allow students to gain practical experience and international exposure. The final year focuses on research and applied learning, with a dissertation module alongside studies in cold environments, environmental modelling, coastal and marine management, environmental change, renewables, and low carbon futures. Additional work-based learning opportunities enhance employability and professional skills. Throughout the program, students develop expertise in using Geographic Information Systems, remote sensing, and field-based methods, gaining hands-on experience in climate science. Graduates leave with the knowledge, technical ability, and analytical skills to pursue careers in environmental consultancy, research, policy, sustainability, and climate adaptation planning at local, national, and global levels.
