COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Building Surveying at Liverpool John Moores University provides a comprehensive education in the technical, legal, and managerial aspects of building surveying, preparing students for professional practice. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in construction technology, property surveys, principles of economics and management, introduction to law, passive design and specification, and science and materials. The second year develops this foundation with advanced modules in asset management, pathology and inspection, procurement and contracts, sustainable buildings, property law for surveyors, and further construction technology. Students also have the option to undertake a study year abroad, a sandwich placement, or a semester abroad, providing valuable international or industry experience. The final year focuses on professional practice, with modules in building surveying professional practice, professional projects, productive workplaces, real estate and asset strategy, and a major research project. The program combines technical knowledge, legal awareness, and management skills with practical, project-based learning, ensuring students are equipped to address real-world challenges in building surveying. Graduates leave with the expertise, experience, and professional competence required to succeed in property refurbishment, maintenance, design, and management, as well as strong employability and career progression prospects within the surveying and construction industries.
