COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Animal Behaviour at Liverpool John Moores University provides a structured curriculum that combines core scientific knowledge with practical and research skills. In the first year, students gain a foundation through modules in ecology, animal behaviour, physiology, genetics and evolution, as well as training in scientific research and practical skills specific to animal behaviour studies. The second year develops deeper understanding with core modules in behavioural ecology, animal communication, brain, hormones and behaviour, and research skills linked to employability. Students can choose from a range of optional modules such as animal monitoring, field skills, animals in motion, or companion animal behaviour, alongside opportunities for a sandwich placement or study abroad experience. The final year focuses on advanced study and independent research, with a substantial research project and a core module on current topics in animal behaviour. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning to interests in areas such as animal cognition, welfare, neurobiology, zoo conservation, primatology, applied animal behaviour, social systems, or advanced field expeditions. The inclusion of work-based learning opportunities further enhances employability, ensuring that graduates leave with both academic expertise and practical experience to pursue careers in animal welfare, research, or conservation.
