COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng Mechatronics and Autonomous Systems at Liverpool John Moores University provides a comprehensive blend of mechanical, electronic, and computing knowledge, preparing students for careers in automation and intelligent systems. In the first year, core modules cover fundamental topics such as engineering mathematics, applied mechanics, circuit analysis, analogue electronics, software development for embedded systems, and professional practice, giving students both theoretical and practical foundations. The second year builds on this with advanced studies in applied mechanics, mechatronics, instrumentation and control engineering, linear electronics design, communications systems, and mathematics, alongside a professional practice integrative project that develops teamwork and problem-solving skills. Students also have the option to gain industry or global experience through a sandwich year in industry or a study year abroad, both worth 120 credits. The final year focuses on specialist and emerging fields, including dynamics and control, automation and the Internet of Things, process control, autonomous systems and machine learning, as well as engineering management. A major mechatronics engineering project allows students to apply their learning to real-world challenges. This structured program ensures graduates are equipped with strong technical expertise, practical design experience, and industry-relevant skills needed to thrive in the fast-growing field of intelligent systems.
