COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering at Liverpool John Moores University offers a structured curriculum that combines theoretical study with practical skills, preparing students for diverse engineering careers. In the first year, students build a foundation in core subjects including engineering mathematics, applied mechanics, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, materials, engineering practice, and mechatronics. These modules develop essential analytical and problem-solving skills while introducing practical applications in mechanical systems. The second year advances these studies with more complex topics such as engineering mathematics, applied mechanics, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics, mechatronics, engineering design, and modelling and simulation, alongside materials and processes. Students can also choose to enhance their experience through a sandwich year in industry or an international study year, both worth 120 credits, providing valuable practical or global exposure. In the final year, students undertake a major engineering project and study industrial management and advanced engineering design. A range of optional modules allows them to specialise in areas such as finite element analysis, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and heat transfer, structural integrity, materials engineering, manufacturing systems, dynamics and control, computational fluid dynamics, and sensors and robotics. This progression ensures graduates gain both depth and breadth of knowledge with strong industry relevance.
