COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Architectural Engineering at Liverpool John Moores University offers a structured program that builds technical expertise, design skills, and professional understanding in building engineering systems. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of construction through modules in construction technology, science and materials, engineering mathematics, and electrical and mechanical principles, alongside developing digital and professional skills. A design project further enhances problem-solving and teamwork abilities. The second year advances technical knowledge with modules in mechanical and electrical engineering for buildings, procurement and contracts, site construction management, and applied mathematics. Students also explore the professional environment and undertake a major design project, with opportunities to take a sandwich placement year or study abroad to gain international or industry experience. In the final year, learning focuses on sustainability and advanced building performance, with modules in environmental analysis, commissioning and facilities management, and low-carbon systems. A capstone design project and a significant research project allow students to apply their learning to complex, real-world challenges. The program combines theory, practical application, and industry engagement, equipping graduates with the skills to design, manage, and innovate in sustainable building engineering and construction environments.
