COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Sociology degree at Liverpool John Moores University provides students with a comprehensive understanding of social structures, cultural dynamics, and global inequalities. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational sociological concepts through modules such as Sociological Imaginations, Contemporary Social and Green Issues, Introduction to Sociology, Becoming a Sociological Investigator, Cultural Sociology, and Global Inequalities and Society. The second year builds on this foundation by focusing on British society, research methods, and critical theory, while offering optional modules that allow students to explore specific topics such as health, politics, music, social media, and work. Opportunities for study abroad or a semester abroad enhance global perspectives and provide practical experience in international contexts. In the final year, students take greater control of their learning through options including an independent dissertation, international fieldwork, and specialized modules such as Sport, Crime and Politics, Body Politics, Cultural Sociology of Music, Visual Sociology, and Mediating Diversity.
