COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Politics, Philosophy and Economics degree at Liverpool John Moores University is a three-year interdisciplinary program that provides students with a broad understanding of political, philosophical, and economic concepts and their application to real-world issues. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules including Introduction to Philosophy, Economics, Introduction to Political Philosophy, Issues in Politics, Philosophy and Economics, Comparative Politics, and Being Politically Engaged, establishing critical thinking and analytical skills. The second year expands students’ expertise with core modules such as Managing Data and Information, Politics, the Economy and the Good Life, and PPE in Practice, alongside optional modules covering international trade, crises, ethics, global politics, and cultural studies, with opportunities for semester or year-long study abroad and a sandwich year for practical experience. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through a substantial Research Project, allowing for in-depth exploration of topics aligned with their interests, and optional modules such as Sustainable Futures, Contemporary Economic Policy, Philosophy and Public Policy, Global Justice, the Politics of War, Comparative Nationalism, and international development studies. Across all three years, students develop transferable skills in research, analysis, and critical evaluation, while experiential learning, field trips, and opportunities to engage with practitioners and policy simulations ensure they are prepared for careers in government, international organisations, policy analysis, research, and related fields.
