COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Policing and Investigations degree at Liverpool John Moores University offers a three-year program designed to prepare students for careers in investigative policing and related criminal justice roles. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge through modules such as Introduction to Policing and Investigation, Practice, Procedure and the Criminal Law, Technology in Policing and Investigation, Introduction to Criminology for Policing, Professional Standards, Governance and Accountability, and Exploring Policing and Investigation Studies – Skills for Success. These modules develop essential legal, procedural, and practical skills for policing and investigation. The second year expands students’ expertise with modules including Policing Communities, advanced Practice, Procedure and the Criminal Law, Conducting Investigations, Community Engagement Projects, Policy, Practice and the Evidence Base, and the Psychology of Investigation. Optional opportunities such as study abroad or semester abroad provide international exposure and practical experience. In the final year, students focus on research and applied investigative skills through modules like Research Project, Approaches to Protecting Vulnerable People and the Management of Offenders, and Applying Forensics to Investigations, while optional modules in terrorism and counter-terrorism, comparative studies in policing, investigating serious and complex cases, and application of intelligence to policing allow for specialisation and deeper understanding. Across the program, students develop analytical, ethical, and practical skills, supported by personal tutors, equipping them for careers in policing, criminal investigation, and broader criminal justice professions.
