COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Media, Culture, Communication at Liverpool John Moores University offers a wide-ranging curriculum that combines critical theory with practical skills relevant to the media and cultural industries. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of cultural and media studies through modules such as studying culture, media texts, media institutions and audiences, professional writing, communicating politics and protest, and an introduction to media and cultural industries. The second year develops these skills with core modules in public communication, entertainment media analysis, research methods, and media and cultural theory, while optional modules allow students to specialise in areas like public relations, popular journalism, or popular culture, with opportunities to study abroad for a semester or a full year. In the final year, students focus on advanced themes such as culture and identity, and media policy and regulation, alongside a choice of specialist modules. These include topics like digital writing, social and digital media, diversity in media, screen studies, publishing, crime and horror in media, and the relationship between Britain, Brexit, Europe and the media. Students may also undertake a dissertation or industry-focused module. The program’s flexible structure supports both academic exploration and career preparation.
