COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Learning Development and Support at Liverpool John Moores University is designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to progress into teaching, mentoring, or other educational roles. In the first year, students develop foundational expertise through modules such as Study Skills and Personal Professional Development, fostering independent learning, reflective practice, and employability. Transition and Resilience Theory explores how children adapt to change and develop coping strategies, while Mentoring and Communication in Education builds essential interpersonal skills for supporting learners. Child Development in the Early Years and Supporting Learners with SEND provide a thorough understanding of developmental stages and strategies for inclusive education. In the second year, students deepen their knowledge with modules like Including the Excluded, Child Development in the Middle Years, Academic Research Methods, and Research in Professional Practice, which combine theory and practical application. Optional modules such as Dyslexia, ADHD in a Mainstream Context, and Learning from Work further enhance practical expertise. The final year emphasizes applied learning and professional development through Work-Based Enquiry, Developing Professional Practice, and Child Development in Adolescence, with optional modules offering additional insights into current educational issues and practical experience. Across all three years, the program integrates academic study with real-world professional practice, preparing students to support diverse learners effectively in educational settings.
