COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Journalism program at Liverpool John Moores University offers a structured, practical approach to developing the skills and knowledge required for a successful career in the media. In the first year, students build foundational expertise in journalism, including reporting, newswriting, broadcast skills, essential law and ethics, and the fundamentals of understanding journalism. These modules establish a strong base in both practical and theoretical aspects of the profession. In the second year, the focus shifts to more advanced skills for a digital and multimedia environment, including journalism for digital audiences, developing broadcast skills, reporting UK politics, multimedia news production, magazine journalism, and wider journalism issues. This year equips students to engage with the evolving demands of modern journalism and explore optional study abroad opportunities to gain international experience. The final year emphasizes professional practice, career preparation, and specialisation, with core modules in advanced journalism practice and journalism careers, alongside optional modules such as sports journalism, features journalism, photojournalism, public interest journalism, public relations for journalists, and a dissertation or final project. Across all three years, students gain hands-on experience in reporting, producing, and presenting content for various platforms, ensuring they graduate with both practical skills and critical understanding to thrive in a dynamic, competitive media industry.
