COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) International Relations and Politics degree offers a comprehensive study of global politics, political theory, and international affairs. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of political philosophy, international relations, and comparative politics, alongside modules that explore modern global history, political engagement, and how politics and protest are communicated. The second year builds on this with a deeper focus on international relations theories and practical political experience, while offering a wide choice of optional modules such as British politics, international organisations, terrorism, race and empire, East Asian politics, global crime, and African or Middle Eastern history. Students also have the chance to study or work abroad for a semester or year, or undertake a sandwich year, broadening their global perspective and employability. In the final year, students complete an independent research project tailored to their interests while selecting from a wide range of advanced optional modules. Topics include security, terrorism and war, international law, human rights, nationalism, development, gender and body politics, and challenging Western-centrism in international relations. This program equips students with strong analytical, research, and communication skills while preparing them for careers in international organisations, policy-making, diplomacy, journalism, and related fields.
