COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) History of Art and Museum Studies degree provides students with a strong foundation in art history, curatorial practice, and professional development. In the first year, modules introduce students to key concepts through topics such as artists and practices, frameworks in art history, global art, and the fundamentals of museums and galleries, alongside opportunities to engage with contemporary art. The second year builds on this by exploring curating in historical and practical contexts, methods in art history, art and representation, and design histories, while also offering an internship module that enhances professional skills and workplace experience. Students also have the option to broaden their perspective with a study semester or full year abroad, allowing them to experience art and museum practices in an international context. The final year is research-focused, giving students the chance to complete an independent dissertation, produce a research paper with a symposium presentation, and develop a major project in collaboration with the Museums Association. By combining academic study with professional practice, the program equips students with critical thinking, research abilities, and hands-on experience, preparing them for careers in museums, galleries, curating, and the wider arts and cultural sector.
