COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Health and Social Care at Liverpool John Moores University offers a structured and comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for diverse roles in health and social care. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation by studying humans and health, equality and inclusion, the political context of health, and professional skills, alongside modules on development across the life course and skills for higher education. The second year builds on this knowledge by focusing on safeguarding, research methods, and international perspectives, while also exploring the role of media and technology in shaping health and society. Students gain practical experience through work-based learning that develops essential professional skills, with opportunities to broaden horizons through study abroad. In the final year, the emphasis shifts to advanced learning and application, with a dissertation allowing for independent research on a chosen area of interest. Students also examine health promotion, mental health, environment and sustainability, and approaches to working with disadvantaged individuals, families, and communities. This course combines theoretical insight with practical engagement, equipping graduates with the critical knowledge, transferable skills, and global perspective needed for rewarding careers in health, social care, policy, and community development sectors.
