COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Fashion: Design and Communication at Liverpool John Moores University is structured to develop both practical skills and critical understanding across three years of study. In the first year, students build a foundation in fashion through core modules covering fashion practice, visualisation and technology, visual direction, and contextual research. This year provides essential technical skills while introducing students to creative and theoretical approaches, enabling them to begin developing their own design identity. In the second year, students advance their expertise with modules focusing on visual language, creative direction, and fashion research in practice, alongside critical contextual investigation, allowing for deeper engagement with the fashion industry. Optional modules such as Fashion Design Focus, Fashion Design Context, and Fashion Awareness enable students to tailor their studies to their specific interests, while opportunities to study abroad enhance their international perspective and experience. The final year centres on advanced, independent projects that integrate all prior learning, including the Final Major Project, Research Project, Studio Project, and Professional Practice. This combination of practical, theoretical, and professional development prepares students for a wide range of careers in fashion design, creative direction, styling, branding, or further postgraduate study, equipping them with the skills, creativity, and confidence to succeed in a dynamic and competitive industry.
