COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Criminology and Psychology at Liverpool John Moores University combines the study of criminal behavior with an in-depth understanding of human psychology, providing students with a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education. In the first year, students explore foundational concepts in criminology, criminal justice systems, and psychology, including developmental, biological, and cognitive aspects of behavior, alongside introductory research methods and statistics. Year two builds on these skills with more advanced psychological research methods, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and studies in cognitive, social, and developmental psychology, while also deepening understanding of contemporary criminological theory, key thinkers, and the societal impact of crime. Optional opportunities include study abroad and practical applications of criminology. In the third year, students undertake a psychology dissertation and select from a wide range of optional modules such as forensic and investigative psychology, health psychology, cognitive neuroscience, psychopharmacology, and positive psychology, while continuing criminology-focused studies on topics like green criminology, policing, child and youth justice, and global crime. Throughout the degree, students develop critical thinking, research, and analytical skills while understanding the complex interaction between individual behavior and societal responses to crime. Graduates are equipped for careers in criminal justice, psychology, research, policy development, and related fields, with the ability to apply their knowledge in practical, ethical, and impactful ways.
