COURSE CURRICULUM

The Social Work program provides students with a strong foundation in theory, practice, and professional skills, combining academic study with extensive practical experience through placements. In the first year, students focus on preparation for social work practice, gaining essential knowledge of law and social policy as it applies to the profession. They also study specialist areas such as working with children and families, as well as interventions with adults at risk, ensuring they understand the challenges and responsibilities of supporting vulnerable groups. This is reinforced through an 80-day full-time placement, offering hands-on experience and the opportunity to apply classroom learning to real-world practice. In the second year, the emphasis shifts towards developing research skills in social work practice, helping students build an evidence-based approach to their work. Skills days provide additional professional development, allowing students to enhance their practical abilities in a supportive learning environment. A second placement, lasting 90 days full time, further consolidates their training, giving them greater responsibility and insight into the realities of professional social work. By combining academic learning with significant practice-based training, the program prepares students to meet the complex and evolving demands of the social work profession.
