COURSE CURRICULUM

The core modules of this program are designed to provide students with a solid foundation in both the theoretical and practical aspects of English language teaching and applied linguistics. The module on English Language and Research introduces students to key linguistic concepts while developing their ability to critically analyse language through research. Second Language Acquisition and Use focuses on how individuals learn and use additional languages, examining theories, processes, and factors that influence language learning. English Language Teaching: Theory, Method and Application enables students to explore a range of teaching approaches and methods, preparing them to apply effective strategies in diverse classroom contexts. Applied Linguistics: Language, Employment and Social Justice broadens perspectives by linking language to wider social, professional, and cultural issues, allowing students to engage with debates about equity, inclusion, and the role of language in society. Finally, the Dissertation provides the opportunity to conduct an independent, in-depth research project in a chosen area of interest, showcasing the skills, knowledge, and critical awareness developed throughout the course. Together, these modules equip students with the expertise needed to pursue careers in English language teaching and related fields, while fostering critical and socially engaged professionals.
