COURSE CURRICULUM

This degree in sport psychology provides a comprehensive understanding of both core psychological principles and their application within sport and performance contexts. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of sport psychology alongside the study of human behaviour, professional development for psychologists, and essential research skills. This provides a solid grounding in psychological theory and practice. In the second year, the focus shifts toward applied contexts, exploring how sport psychologists work with athletes, coaches, and other stakeholders while further developing research expertise through both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Students also gain valuable professional experience through placements that enhance employability and practical skills. The final year emphasizes independent learning and applied practice, with students undertaking a major research project and studying sport psychology in real-world contexts. Alongside this, they can tailor their learning by choosing from a wide range of optional modules, such as counselling psychology, forensic psychology, health behaviour, mental health, cyberpsychology, or environmental psychology. These options allow students to explore specialist interests while building a versatile knowledge base. By graduation, students will have developed strong research, analytical, and applied skills, preparing them for professional roles or further postgraduate study in sport psychology or related areas.
