COURSE CURRICULUM

The Construction Management degree is structured to provide students with a strong foundation in construction principles, project management and industry practice, progressing to advanced skills needed for professional roles. In the first year, core modules such as Construction Technology and Design 1, Building Science and the Sustainable Environment, Project Environment and Management Techniques, and Construction Economics introduce students to construction methods, environmental considerations, economic factors and the basics of managing construction projects. The second year develops more specialised knowledge, with modules including Construction Technology and Design 2, Project Planning Ethics and Safety Control, Construction Law, and Procurement and Contract Administration. At this stage, students learn how to plan projects effectively, ensure ethical and safe working practices, navigate legal frameworks, and manage procurement and contracts. The final year focuses on applying knowledge to complex and real-world contexts, with modules such as Collaborative and Interprofessional Practice, which develops teamwork across disciplines, and Conservation, Refurbishment and Retrofitting of Buildings, which highlights sustainable regeneration and heritage preservation. Students also undertake a Research Project, allowing them to investigate a chosen area in depth. Together, these modules prepare graduates with the technical, managerial and analytical skills required for careers in construction management.
