COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedical Science degree is structured to provide a progressive and comprehensive understanding of the field, combining theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory skills. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation through modules such as Biomedical Science Skills, Cell Biology, Systems Physiology, Molecular Biochemistry, Professional Skills, and Microbiology and Genetics. These modules introduce essential concepts of human biology, disease mechanisms, and core laboratory practices. The second year builds on this foundation with a focus on applied biomedical disciplines, covering Professional Biomedical Practice, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Microbiology, Haematology and Transfusion Science, Molecular Diagnostics, Clinical Biochemistry, and Cyto and Histopathology. This stage equips students with specialist knowledge of diagnostic techniques, disease processes, and professional standards within healthcare science. In the final year, learning becomes more advanced and research-focused, with core modules including Cancer Biology, Pharmacology, Bioentrepreneurship, and Integrated Pathobiology, alongside an independent Research Project. This allows students to apply their knowledge, refine their research skills, and explore how biomedical science can be translated into clinical and commercial applications. By combining in-depth scientific understanding with practical and professional experience, the program prepares graduates for diverse career pathways within biomedical science, healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and research.
