COURSE CURRICULUM

The Broadcast and Digital Journalism degree offers a structured progression over three years, combining core journalistic training with opportunities for specialisation. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of journalism through Essential Journalism 1 and 2, which build core skills in reporting, writing, editing and digital storytelling. The second year develops these foundations further with modules such as Radio and Online Newsdays, where students practise live reporting in professional newsroom settings, alongside Public Affairs and Journalism in Context, which provide a deeper understanding of political, social and industry frameworks. Optional modules such as Documentary: Concept to Practice, Features and Magazines, or Pitchside allow students to tailor their learning towards specific interests, whether in long-form storytelling, sports journalism or feature writing. The final year focuses on advanced professional preparation, with core modules in Professional Learning Through Work, Media Law and Regulation, and TV and Social Media Newsdays, giving students both practical experience and an understanding of the legal and ethical frameworks shaping journalism. A range of options including PR and Promotions, Shorthand, Advanced Audio Production, or a Final Project provide scope for further specialisation. The course ensures graduates leave with professional newsroom experience, specialist knowledge, and a portfolio ready for diverse media careers.
