ABOUT UNIVERSITY

Leeds Trinity University is a public university located in Horsforth, Leeds, in West Yorkshire, England. Originally founded in 1966 as two separate Roman Catholic teacher training colleges—Trinity College for women and All Saints College for men—it was created to meet the growing demand for qualified teachers in post-war Britain. The colleges merged in 1980 to form Trinity and All Saints College, and eventually evolved into a full university.Initially focused on teacher training for Catholic schools, Leeds Trinity gradually expanded its academic offerings to include foundation, undergraduate, and postgraduate degrees in a variety of humanities and social sciences. Over time, the college introduced new departments, such as Humanities, Modern Languages, Social Sciences, and Environmental Sciences. Despite facing government funding cuts and competition from newer universities in the 1990s, it managed to grow, especially in areas like Communications and Media.By 1991, the college was affiliated with the University of Leeds, and in 2001 it formalized this relationship through an accreditation agreement. In 2009, the institution was granted taught degree awarding powers, becoming a university college, and was awarded full university status in 2012, changing its name to Leeds Trinity University. The university is a member of the Cathedrals Group and the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities. It continues to maintain its Catholic identity while serving a broader student base in higher education.
