COURSE CURRICULUM

This master's-level program is structured to provide students with a comprehensive and practical understanding of sport performance analysis, research, and professional development within a high-performance context. The module on Understanding & Analysing Sport Performance encourages critical reflection on students’ prior sporting experiences while deepening their understanding of the physical, tactical, and psychological demands of their specific sport, acknowledging how these elements evolve with athlete development and performance trends. The Research Process module lays the foundation for evidence-based practice, introducing different methodologies and analytical techniques to develop the critical thinking needed for postgraduate research. Applied Analytics & Data Visualisation is designed for the data-driven age of sport, teaching students how to handle large datasets, perform advanced statistical analyses, and present insights through clear, compelling visualisation tailored to various professional audiences. Measurement Techniques in Performance Analysis explores both quantitative and qualitative methods, preparing students to select and apply appropriate tools for capturing meaningful performance data. The Professional Practice module supports students’ transition into industry or further academic pursuits by encouraging the acquisition of additional qualifications and emphasising the interdisciplinary skills required in real-world professional settings. All these modules culminate in the Major Independent Study, a 60-credit capstone project where students conduct in-depth, original research on a chosen topic relevant to sport performance. This final project allows students to apply the skills, knowledge, and insights developed across the course while contributing to the wider body of academic or applied sports knowledge. Collectively, the program ensures graduates are equipped not only with technical expertise in analysis and data science but also with research acumen and professional readiness, making them valuable contributors to the evolving landscape of performance sport.
