COURSE CURRICULUM

This program covers essential skills and knowledge for a career in journalism, focusing on both traditional and emerging media. In the Reporting module, students learn the core practices of journalism, including sourcing, gathering, and writing news stories. The module emphasizes practical application, with students producing news and feature stories using research and interview techniques in a newsroom environment. Journalism Theory provides a critical understanding of journalism principles, focusing on how the field operates in a rapidly changing, global, and technologically-driven media landscape. Professional Journalism Development prepares students to confidently enter the media industry, offering masterclasses from industry professionals and guidance on developing a strong professional social media presence. A three-week work experience component helps bridge the gap between theory and practice. Feature Writing hones students’ skills in writing for magazines, newspapers, and websites, with a particular focus on technology and science journalism. The International Perspectives on Media Law, Ethics & Regulation module explores the intersection of media law, human rights, and ethics in a UK, European, and international context. Introduction to Broadcast Media provides hands-on experience in radio editing, broadcasting, and podcasting, as well as mobile video editing techniques. Editorial Production equips students with the knowledge to work in the print and digital magazine industry, including image handling, typography, and graphics, culminating in the production of a print magazine and website. Finally, the Dissertation offers students the opportunity to conduct an in-depth research project on a topic of personal interest, allowing them to apply their learned skills in a comprehensive and independent manner.
