COURSE CURRICULUM

This health psychology course provides a comprehensive foundation in the theory, practice, and application of psychological principles to health and wellbeing. It begins with Contexts & Perspectives in Health Psychology, where students critically engage with interdisciplinary knowledge relevant to health psychology, setting the stage for future professional work. Advanced Research Methods for Health Psychology builds on this foundation, developing the skills needed to synthesise evidence and design empirical studies.Health Psychology in Action focuses on evaluating and applying a range of interventions, including behavioural change techniques, cognitive-behavioural strategies, and health promotion approaches. Students also learn about health needs assessments and the implementation of interventions across different healthcare settings. In Client Groups Across the Life Span, the emphasis shifts to working with diverse populations, exploring how factors like age, disability, gender, and cultural background influence health and healthcare experiences.Physiological & Psychosomatic Disease Processes deepens understanding of the interplay between psychological and biological processes in key health issues such as stress, obesity, pain, and addiction. A group research project embedded in this module further strengthens applied research and collaboration skills. The Personal Development module supports professional growth, focusing on self-reflection, legal and ethical standards, and the practical realities of working as a health psychologist in the UK and internationally.The course culminates with a Dissertation, where students design and conduct an independent research project, demonstrating their ability to apply theoretical knowledge and research methods to real-world psychological questions. Throughout the course, students are prepared to think critically, act ethically, and contribute meaningfully to improving health outcomes.
