COURSE CURRICULUM

This comprehensive Cyber Security and Digital Forensics program delivers a well-rounded, technical and investigative education designed to address modern digital threats and system vulnerabilities. In Year 1, students build foundational skills across programming, databases, networks, and digital investigations. Modules such as Fundamentals of Computer Programming and Object-Oriented Programming introduce essential coding structures and software development techniques. Computer Communications provides critical understanding of network protocols and data transmission. Ethical Hacking & Penetration Testing introduces students to real-world hacking tools and attack methodologies, which they learn to ethically apply for system testing and improvement. Meanwhile, Fundamentals of Databases explores data modelling and storage, and Fundamentals of Digital Forensics introduces students to investigative tools and legal considerations when handling digital evidence. In Year 2, students progress into more advanced applications with Digital Forensics Processing and Analysis, gaining experience with forensic software, file systems, and evidence handling. Cyber Security Landscapes and Web & Network Security dive deeper into technical concepts, including cryptography, infrastructure protection, and web vulnerabilities based on OWASP standards. The Team Project module sharpens collaborative and professional skills as students tackle real-world challenges. In Year 3, practical application continues through the Project module, where students work collaboratively to design and develop solutions to technical problems. Systems Security strengthens hands-on skills with system configuration, auditing and access controls, while Mobile Forensic Investigations addresses non-traditional digital evidence sources, such as mobile and IoT devices. In the final year, the course turns to highly specialised content. Modules such as Reverse Engineering & Malware Analysis and Software Security & Exploitation prepare students to detect, dissect and defend against software-based attacks. Forensic Image & Video Processing teaches the proper handling of multimedia evidence using advanced processing techniques. Research Practice and the Dissertation module enable students to explore a specific interest in depth, developing original contributions while sharpening their academic and investigative expertise.
