COURSE CURRICULUM

The MEng Building Services Engineering program follows a structured four-year curriculum designed to develop strong technical, analytical, and professional skills. In the first year, students build a solid foundation in building services design principles, engineering mathematics, building services science, thermofluids, electrical and electronic principles, and mechanical services, establishing essential knowledge of core engineering systems. The second year develops this foundation through advanced engineering mathematics and specialist modules in electrical services and lighting, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems, building management and control systems, and construction communication, alongside a group design project that promotes teamwork and practical problem-solving. In the third year, the focus shifts towards sustainability and advanced analysis, with modules in low-carbon systems design, facilities maintenance management, intelligent building technologies, and building physics, supported by a substantial dissertation that develops independent research skills. In the final year, students concentrate on integrated and sustainable design, completing modules in sustainable systems design, building information modelling and MEP coordination, and an integrated project, alongside a research paper. Optional modules allow further specialisation in areas such as sustainable buildings or humanitarian engineering, and project management or intelligent building systems. Overall, the program prepares graduates to design, manage, and deliver efficient, low-carbon building services solutions in response to global sustainability challenges.
