COURSE CURRICULUM

The modules in this program offer a comprehensive exploration of key areas in international and European law, particularly focusing on trade, competition, intellectual property, and economic security. The Law of the Internal Market module delves into the governance of the European Union's internal market, with an emphasis on the free movement of goods, services, and people. Students will examine EU legislation and case law from the Court of Justice of the EU, analyzing how legal and non-legal rules influence the internal market's functioning. International Trade Law introduces students to the legal system of the World Trade Organization (WTO), focusing on the relationships between states and international players, dispute resolution, and the control of anti-trade practices. It also addresses regional trading blocs like the EU and NAFTA. The Competition Law & the Digital Economy module examines competition policies in the UK, EU, and USA, highlighting the regulation of anti-competitive practices and the challenges posed by the digital economy, including cases involving companies like Google and Microsoft. Intellectual Property Law explores the regulation of intellectual property in a globalized commercial environment, analyzing the economic significance of intellectual property rights. The Global Law of Economic Security module addresses international legal movements aimed at combating organized crime, including issues like bribery, money laundering, and terrorism financing. Students will study how countries and international bodies align economic laws to enforce sanctions and respond to threats. Private International Trade Law focuses on international sale transactions, offering a detailed analysis of legislation, case law, and international conventions. The dissertation allows students to undertake an independent research project on a legal topic of their choice, developing original insights in the field.
