COURSE CURRICULUM

The program delves into critical topics in the fields of international relations, peace, and conflict studies. The MA Dissertation & Research Design module provides an opportunity for students to engage in a research-based project, allowing them to explore a topic that aligns with their personal and professional interests, building their academic and research skills. Civilian Protection focuses on strategies for protecting civilians from violence at local, national, and international levels, offering students the chance to evaluate international interventions, the role of NGOs, and the effectiveness of peace and conflict strategies. The Gendering the International module challenges students to explore the impact of gender in international politics and global political economy, emphasizing theoretical, empirical, and practical debates surrounding gender dynamics. Security, Conflict & Development interrogates the evolving concept of insecurity, examining the intersection of conflict, security, and development from a human rights perspective, with case studies covering global and local responses to security threats. Developing & Managing Projects introduces the essentials of project management, guiding students through the process of designing, developing, and funding projects, while equipping them with skills in stakeholder engagement, communication, and evaluation. Lastly, Theorising Peace & Conflict explores the theories and concepts used to understand and resolve violence and conflict, with a focus on conflict resolution and peacebuilding, providing insights into the obstacles and achievements in the pursuit of peace. Together, these modules offer a comprehensive education on contemporary challenges in international relations, security, and conflict management.
