This program focuses on the creative, analytical, and technical aspects of composing and producing music for visual media. In Analysis of Music for the Moving Image, students develop analytical techniques to better understand the historical, stylistic, and functional evolution of film music, enhancing their ability to critically engage with soundtracks.Composition for the Moving Image addresses the practical challenges of creating music for film, television, and other media formats. Students explore how to interpret visual material, respond to narrative, and develop scores that support emotional and dramatic content.Collaborative Practice provides hands-on experience working in team-based environments, reflecting the realities of industry workflows. Students engage with complex briefs and learn to collaborate with professionals such as directors, editors, and sound designers.Research Practice introduces the core methodologies needed to conduct academic and practice-based research in music technology. This module lays the foundation for deeper inquiry into music production, composition, and related fields.Negotiated Skills Development allows students to work with tutors to design a personalised learning plan. It supports independent learning through focused research and practical application aligned with the student’s career goals and creative interests.The Final Individual Project is the culmination of the program, offering students the chance to undertake an in-depth exploration of a topic or project of their own choosing.
