COURSE CURRICULUM
This interdisciplinary psychology program offers a rich and critical engagement with foundational, contemporary, and alternative approaches to understanding the human psyche. It begins with the Foundations of Psychoanalysis module, where students explore the early theories and methods of Sigmund Freud, setting the stage for deeper engagement with subsequent thinkers. Building on this, Contemporary Psychoanalytic Approaches introduces the works of Melanie Klein, British Object Relations theorists, and Jacques Lacan, offering diverse perspectives on unconscious processes, subjectivity, and human development. Alongside psychoanalytic theory, the program incorporates Transpersonal Psychology, allowing students to investigate altered states of consciousness, spiritual experiences, and concepts of enlightenment that challenge the boundaries of traditional psychological models. Mindfulness-Based Approaches further complement this by grounding students in both the theoretical and practical aspects of mindfulness from psychological and cross-cultural spiritual perspectives. The course also includes Central Problems in Psychology, a module that interrogates the conceptual foundations of psychology, encouraging students to critically compare how different schools of thought—such as critical psychology, psychoanalysis, and transpersonal approaches—understand key psychological concepts. To support research and academic growth, Critical Methodologies trains students in interdisciplinary research practices, preparing them for the complexity of studying human psychology across varied epistemological frameworks. The program culminates in the Independent Project, which invites students to apply their learning through a substantial piece of research, either as a dissertation, literature review, or practice-based portfolio. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to reflect critically, think interdisciplinarily, and engage with complex psychological phenomena from theoretical, experiential, and research-oriented perspectives, preparing them for further study, therapeutic training, or diverse professional roles that demand nuanced understanding of the human mind and behaviour.
