COURSE CURRICULUM

This Sport Coaching degree is designed to develop your practical coaching skills alongside a deep understanding of child and youth development, pedagogy, and long-term athlete development. It's a hands-on course with multiple placements and real-world coaching experiences throughout.In Year 1, you’ll start by learning the fundamentals of coaching and how to tailor your approach based on the developmental stage of participants. You’ll study how children and adolescents grow and learn, and you'll get practical experience coaching both primary and secondary school-aged participants. You'll also begin developing key academic skills such as research, critical thinking, and reflective practice.Year 2 builds on this foundation by giving you the chance to take part in more in-depth placements. You’ll explore professional values, expand your understanding of pedagogy, and learn how to design sport curricula that meet the needs of different participants. You’ll also develop your research skills in preparation for your final year project.In the final year, you’ll take on a more independent and professional role. You’ll complete a major research project focused on a coaching-related topic of your choice. You’ll also lead sessions and plan long-term curricula for specific groups, gaining experience that directly relates to real coaching jobs. The final year is designed to help you transition into the workforce with confidence, supported by industry engagement and career-focused modules.This course would suit someone who enjoys working directly with people, particularly young people, and wants a career in teaching, youth coaching, or sport development.
