COURSE CURRICULUM

This degree in Sport and Exercise Nutrition provides a structured and comprehensive education, combining scientific knowledge, practical skills, and professional development. In the first year, students gain essential understanding in physiology, nutrition, biochemistry, psychology, and food science. Modules such as physiology of the human body and nutrition and biochemistry for health and exercise introduce how the body functions and utilizes energy during physical activity. Students also explore psychological aspects of exercise and sedentary behavior, and begin developing key academic and professional skills through modules like personal, professional and academic development and the sport and exercise scientist in action. In the second year, the course builds on this foundation with a stronger emphasis on applied knowledge and employability. Students explore physiological responses to exercise in greater depth and develop practitioner skills to support real-world applications. Modules such as food and nutrition for health and exercise and behaviour change allow students to understand how nutrition and psychological strategies can support diverse populations. The year also includes research training and work-based learning to prepare for future careers and independent study. In the final year, students complete a major independent research project that demonstrates critical thinking and methodological rigour. They also study performance nutrition, focusing on dietary strategies and supplementation to enhance athletic performance, and public health nutrition, which addresses issues like sustainable eating, food insecurity, and diet-related diseases. The professional practice module ensures students are aware of ethical standards, client relationships, and the professional competencies required in sport and exercise nutrition. Overall, the course equips graduates with the scientific, practical, and interpersonal skills necessary to pursue careers in health promotion, athletic performance support, public health, or further academic study.
