COURSE CURRICULUM

The Social Care program provides a comprehensive foundation in social care practice, focusing on communication, professional development, and understanding the complexities of social issues. In the first year, students build essential skills in modules such as "Professional & Academic Skills," where they are introduced to study techniques, time management, and independent learning. "Politics of Everyday Life" encourages an exploration of how politics and globalization affect communities, particularly young people and families. "Working Positively with Adults: Empowering Relationships - Work Related Learning" allows students to develop interpersonal skills and reflect on their learning in a work-related environment. "Engaging & Communicating" focuses on enhancing verbal and non-verbal communication, crucial for effective practice. The year also includes "Human Growth & Development Across the Lifespan," which examines physical, psychological, and psychosocial development, and "Social Justice & Inequality," exploring issues of social justice and inequality across various sectors such as health and criminal justice.In the second year, students build on their communication and practical skills. "Enhanced Communication: Therapeutic Approaches to Support" explores therapeutic communication methods in group settings, particularly in social crises. "Safeguarding: Adult & Child Protection" addresses legal and social policy regarding child and adult protection, teaching students to manage risks and professional responsibilities in safeguarding. "Working Positively with Adults: Enterprise & Engagement - Work Related Learning" provides students with 120 hours of work-related learning in a social/community enterprise setting. "Developing Research In Practice: Adults" introduces students to social research methods and ethics, fostering critical thinking. "Emerging Issues in Practice" analyzes contemporary social issues and the challenges faced by practitioners.The final year focuses on advanced knowledge and skills development. "The Global Practitioner" examines the impact of globalization on local practice, with themes like migration and economics. "Community Practitioner - Work Related Learning 3" builds on previous work placements, allowing students to further develop their social care skills in community settings. The "Research Project" offers students the opportunity to undertake original research in their chosen area of adult social care practice. Finally, "Advanced Communication: Empowerment & Advocacy" equips students with advanced communication skills for working with individuals facing social crises, exploring therapeutic intervention and advocacy techniques. This program prepares students for effective, ethical, and impactful practice in the social care field.
