COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1 of the Sport Performance course, you’ll develop a strong foundation in human anatomy, physiology, and biomechanics through modules such as Human Movement and Physiology of Testing & Training. You’ll explore psychological and behavioural aspects in Human Behaviour in Sport & Exercise and examine how nutrition and biochemistry contribute to health and performance. The development of young athletes is covered in depth, and you’ll begin building your academic and professional skills in the Personal, Professional & Academic Development module.In Year 2, your focus shifts to applying core knowledge to practical sport performance contexts. Modules like Biomechanics & Performance Analysis and Science of Physiological Adaptations enhance your understanding of how to optimise athletic performance through data analysis and understanding bodily adaptations to exercise. You’ll explore the practical roles and career paths in the field through Professional Development in Sport Performance and Athlete Lifestyle & Career Support. Research in Practice builds your ability to critically engage with sport science literature and prepare for your final year project, while The Developing Strength & Conditioning Coach introduces training and testing practices in athletic preparation.In your final year, you’ll undertake the Final Year Project in Sport Performance, applying your research skills to a subject of personal interest. You’ll deepen your understanding of how training environments impact performance through Optimising Performance Environments and enhance your data interpretation and analysis abilities in Measurement & Evaluation in Sports Performance. These modules ensure you graduate with both the theoretical grounding and applied skills needed for careers in sports science, coaching, athlete development or further study.
