COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1 of the audio course, you'll build foundational knowledge across key areas such as critical listening, studio techniques, and audio systems. Modules like Acoustics and Critical Listening and Analogue and Digital Audio Systems introduce the principles behind sound and how it behaves in different environments. You'll begin working hands-on in Creative Studio Techniques and Creative Audio Technologies, learning how to use digital audio workstations and audio effects. The Audio Production Portfolio and Professional Audio Industries modules further develop your technical abilities and provide insight into real-world applications and industry expectations.In Year 2, you’ll deepen your practical and technical skills through modules such as Audio System Design, which explores how audio systems function from input to output. Creative Studio Production focuses on delivering full recording projects, while Live Sound teaches you how to set up and manage professional live audio environments. The Acoustics and Psychoacoustics module adds theoretical depth, covering how sound is perceived and measured. You'll also complete a Level 5 Project, working on individual or group briefs that connect your skills to wider creative industries.In the final year, you'll start by developing a clear plan for your capstone work in the Project Proposal module. Sound Reproduction Systems offers technical insight into live and recorded audio delivery, including surround sound and loudspeaker design. You can choose to complete a Major Project, allowing you to independently research and develop a substantial piece of practical or theoretical work. With support from tutors and supervisors, this project will demonstrate your ability to plan, execute and reflect on creative or technical challenges. By the end of the course, you’ll have a strong portfolio and a thorough understanding of professional standards in audio, ready for careers in music production, sound design, live sound, or audio technology.
