COURSE CURRICULUM

The Games Design degree is a practical and creative course that builds a strong foundation in both the artistic and technical sides of game development. In the first year, students are introduced to the core principles of game design, storytelling, programming, and 3D asset creation. Modules such as Games Design and Game Asset Creation focus on creative development and the basics of level and environment design. Game Development 1 and 2 introduce students to coding and working within a game engine, helping them learn how to turn ideas into playable products.In the second year, students advance their technical abilities and broaden their creative understanding. Game Development 3 introduces more complex systems and programming methods. Game Animation & VFX teaches students how to bring characters and environments to life, while Concept Art & Visualisation develops visual communication and creative thinking. Game Studies encourages critical analysis of games and their cultural impact. Through modules like Game Environments and the Group Project, students apply what they’ve learned to develop working prototypes and gain experience in team-based production.In the final year, the focus is on professional practice and independent work. The Production Project allows students to work as a design team, often in response to a real-world brief or external client. The Dissertation gives students the opportunity to research a topic that reflects their personal interests and career goals. The Games Studio module looks at current industry challenges and prepares students to understand the business, marketing, and innovation side of game design.Overall, this course blends creative design, technical development, and academic research to prepare students for careers in game development, 3D art, animation, or design leadership in the games industry.
