COURSE CURRICULUM

This dietetics course is structured to provide a thorough foundation in nutrition science, clinical practice, and professional skills, leading to eligibility for HCPC registration as a dietitian.In year 1, you will develop essential scientific knowledge through modules in human physiology, nutrition, food science, and biochemistry. You'll also study social influences on health and gain an introduction to communication skills and professionalism in dietetics. A three-week placement (Practice Placement A) provides early exposure to clinical settings and introduces you to practical dietetic tasks.In year 2, the focus shifts to applying nutritional knowledge in clinical and community settings. You will study nutrition support, metabolism, genetics, and long-term condition management. You'll also strengthen your research and evaluation skills. A 13-week placement (Practice Placement B) will further develop your clinical competence and professional understanding in real-world environments.In the final year, you will refine your clinical and professional skills to prepare for autonomous practice. Key areas include mental health, paediatrics, clinical effectiveness, and professional accountability. You will undertake a major research project and a final 12-week clinical placement (Practice Placement C), meeting the final set of competencies needed for registration as a dietitian. The course also includes a module on nutrition strategies, encouraging leadership and strategic thinking in health promotion.
