COURSE CURRICULUM

This course in Cyber Security and Digital Forensics offers a structured and practical approach to understanding and managing digital threats, securing systems, and investigating cyber incidents. In Year 1, students are introduced to the technical foundation of programming through Fundamentals of Computer Programming and Object-Oriented Programming, which develop the essential logic and design skills required in computing. Alongside this, modules like Fundamentals of Databases and Computer Communications provide a basis in data management and network protocols, critical for understanding how information is stored and transmitted. Ethical Hacking & Penetration Testing introduces students to the mindset and methods of hackers, but from a legal and ethical standpoint, helping them understand how to assess and strengthen system security. The Fundamentals of Digital Forensics module rounds out the year by teaching students how to collect and preserve digital evidence, setting the stage for more advanced forensic analysis. In Year 2, the course dives deeper into security and investigation with Digital Forensics Processing and Digital Forensics Analysis, equipping students with hands-on experience in using forensic tools and analysing file systems within legal and ethical frameworks. Web & Network Security and Cyber Security Landscapes focus on current vulnerabilities in modern infrastructures and human factors in security, with a strong emphasis on real-world applications like cryptography and OWASP standards. The Team Project encourages collaboration and professional growth by simulating a real-world development or investigative challenge. The final year brings together all prior learning in specialised and applied modules. Systems Security covers in-depth configuration and auditing of operating systems, while Mobile Forensic Investigations extends forensic techniques to emerging digital environments like mobile devices and IoT systems. The course culminates in a Production Project, offering students the opportunity to explore a topic of interest in depth, often in collaboration with industry, demonstrating both technical competence and critical self-reflection.
