COURSE CURRICULUM

This Construction Management degree offers a progressive blend of technical, legal, managerial, and collaborative learning across three years. In the first year, students are introduced to fundamental concepts of measurement, estimating, and construction technology, with a focus on small-scale buildings. Modules also cover building science and services, materials used in construction, and basic legal principles related to contract and tort law in the built environment. Students learn procurement, tendering, and valuation processes essential for contractor selection and post-contract cost control. In the second year, the curriculum expands to more complex topics including large-scale and commercial construction methods. Students gain hands-on experience in interdisciplinary teamwork, simulating real-world project environments. Digital collaboration and construction software tools are explored, alongside deep dives into construction contract practices and project management strategies. These modules build both technical competence and professional readiness. In the final year, students complete a dissertation, conducting independent research on a construction-related issue of personal or professional interest. The program culminates with advanced modules such as Commercial Construction Management, which explores the economic and financial forces that influence construction decisions. Through Interprofessional Consultancy, students work in teams to provide real-world solutions to construction and design problems, emphasizing cost-effective and sustainable practices. BIM Process & Philosophy and Financial & Commercial Management further prepare students for leadership in a digitally integrated and economically driven construction industry. The degree equips graduates with practical knowledge, critical thinking, and project management skills needed for a successful career in the built environment.
