COURSE CURRICULUM

This Sport and Exercise course offers a multidisciplinary and practical education, equipping students with the scientific, managerial, coaching, and community engagement skills necessary for a broad range of roles in the sports industry. The curriculum develops progressively from foundational knowledge to advanced, applied practice and research.In Year 1, students gain a strong grounding in human anatomy, biomechanics and physiology through the Sports Performance 1 module. They also begin to understand the dynamics of coaching and learning in Sports Coaching and Pedagogy 1, which introduces educational theory and reflective practice. Alongside this, Sport and Physical Activity in the Community 1 explores how physical activity is provided in community settings, with a focus on inclusion. Sport Management 1 introduces the structure and delivery of sport across sectors. Modules in personal development and employability provide support for career planning and help students build academic, professional and research skills early on.Year 2 deepens the scientific and practical elements introduced in Year 1. In Sports Performance 2, students learn how to create evidence-based training programs tailored for health or athletic improvement. The coaching and community modules shift towards planning and delivering coaching sessions for various age groups and skill levels, supported by data collection and evaluation techniques. Sport Management 2 covers strategic business concepts and environmental analysis within the sport sector. The Research Methods module introduces research design and data analysis to prepare students for their final year projects. Employability 2 builds on previous development with more direct engagement in sport-specific professional networks and skill enhancement.The final year of the program focuses on the integration of theory into real-world contexts and the development of independent research skills. Students complete a major research project in a chosen area such as coaching, sport science or management. In Sports Performance 3, students apply scientific analysis tools to evaluate athletic performance and identify strategies for enhancement. Sports Coaching and Pedagogy 3 emphasises long-term athlete development and prepares students for leadership roles in coaching. Community engagement is further explored in Sport and Physical Activity in the Community 3, with an emphasis on sport as a vehicle for social development. Sport Management 3 gives students practical experience in sport event management, applying project management strategies to authentic scenarios.Overall, the course provides a solid academic foundation, practical experience, and career-focused skills for students interested in coaching, sport development, management, or performance analysis.
