COURSE CURRICULUM
The Electrical and Electronic Engineering program provides students with a robust foundation in the principles and applications of electrical, electronic, and manufacturing engineering. The course spans three years, incorporating both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing students for roles in engineering design, automation, power electronics, and manufacturing technologies.Year 1 starts with core modules such as Computers in Engineering, where you'll learn about the software and computer tools used by engineers to solve operational and reliability problems. In Electrical & Electronic Principles 1, you'll develop the ability to analyze and build simple analogue circuits, including the analysis of resistors, capacitors, and inductors in DC circuits. Digital Electronics introduces you to the development and testing of digital electronic systems, while Maths for Electronics & Electrical Engineers strengthens your mathematical skills and their application to engineering problems. The Engineering Skills 1 (non-credit) module focuses on essential general engineering and academic skills. Through Engineering Design Project 1, you’ll engage in the practical design process, using electronics and robotics kits to create a prototype. Engineering Systems & Data Acquisition teaches you how to analyze engineering systems, including an understanding of sensors and system components.Year 2 expands into more advanced topics. In Analogue Systems & Circuits, you'll design analogue circuit systems used in electronic and electrical applications. Control Systems covers the theory and application of control systems, including computer-based tools for system design. Robotics & AI introduces industrial applications of robotics and artificial intelligence, focusing on automating industrial processes. The Embedded Systems module explores system architecture and hardware interactions for embedded devices. Engineering Design Project 2 challenges you to create a more advanced prototype, factoring in real-world engineering constraints such as cost, ethics, and safety. Smart Systems for Robotics will develop your ability to design interconnected systems for robotics, using programming tools like Python. In the Final Year, you'll delve into specialized subjects. Advanced Manufacturing Technologies explores the role of computer simulation in production systems, while Engineering Control teaches you to design and implement computer-controlled industrial systems. In Engineering Design, you'll focus on sustainable engineering solutions, including the financial and ethical considerations in design. The Production Project allows you to develop a product for an external client, gaining experience in the full engineering process. Finally, Power Electronics will deepen your understanding of power control systems, focusing on the use of solid-state electronics to control the flow of electric energy. This course equips students with the necessary technical expertise, design experience, and problem-solving skills required to succeed in a wide range of engineering disciplines, from robotics to power electronics.
