The Sports Journalism course offers a dynamic blend of theoretical knowledge and practical experience tailored to the evolving world of sports media. In the first year, students are introduced to the foundations of the industry through modules such as Contemporary Issues in Sport, which places sport within its broader cultural context. Alongside this, Sports Reporting and Broadcast Sports Journalism equip students with essential skills in story sourcing, writing, and multimedia reporting for TV and radio. Digital Publishing and Introduction to Media Law further prepare students for the modern media landscape, focusing on online content creation and the legal frameworks essential to journalistic integrity. Ethics & Sports Journalism encourages reflection on the moral responsibilities of reporting and its relationship with regulated sports. In the second year, the focus expands to more specialised areas. Futures: Reading the Media explores shifts in global media due to digital technologies, while Writing Features hones students’ ability to produce in-depth, publication-ready content. Sport Broadcasting and Multimedia Sports Journalism enhance technical competencies in video and audio production for live and recorded sports coverage. Employability in Sports Media gives students the chance to apply their skills in real-world settings through short-term industry placements, while PR for Journalists strengthens communication and collaboration skills with public relations professionals. In the final year, students take on more complex, career-focused work. Magazine Production and Portfolio Production provide opportunities to create professional-grade content and build an industry-ready portfolio. Sports Journalism in Practice and the Journalism Project simulate real newsroom experiences, allowing students to produce original, longform content across media formats. Throughout the program, students develop into adaptable, ethical, and technically proficient journalists with the ability to thrive across digital, print, and broadcast platforms, ready to enter the sports media industry with a strong blend of creativity, critical thinking, and professional practice.
