The psychology degree begins with a broad foundation in interdisciplinary and critical approaches to understanding human behavior, consciousness, and development. In the first year, modules such as Interdisciplinary Psychology and Consciousness Studies introduce students to both traditional scientific models and alternative perspectives, encouraging critical thinking about psychological knowledge and its applications. Doing Psychology supports personal and professional development through reflection and self-directed learning, while Psychosocial Development covers human growth across the lifespan within social and cultural contexts. Mind, Self & Culture and Researching Society further explore how cultural, historical, and epistemological frameworks shape human experience and social scientific research. In the second year, the program expands into specific subfields. Environmental Psychology examines how environments influence consciousness and behavior, while Psychoanalytic Contributions explores foundational theories from Freud and later analysts. Critical Social Psychology offers alternative views of individual-society relations, challenging dominant narratives in traditional psychology. Parapsychology invites inquiry into experiences beyond conventional scientific understanding, while Researching Psychology and Psychology of Persuasion build practical skills in research design, critical analysis, and communication. The final year deepens critical engagement and allows for specialisation. Students complete a dissertation in Social Psychology, conducting original research under supervision. Modules such as Radical Psychology challenge mainstream psychology’s assumptions, exploring how it intersects with identity, power, and social exclusion. Social Psychology of Music investigates music’s role in shaping identity and culture, while Transpersonal Psychology: Psychonautics explores altered states of consciousness and spiritual experiences using interdisciplinary methods. Throughout, the course balances theory and practice, encourages diverse viewpoints, and fosters the development of critical, reflective, and ethical practitioners. It equips students with a rich understanding of psychology as both a scientific and humanistic discipline, ready to engage with complex real-world issues and contribute meaningfully to academic, professional, and personal contexts.
