COURSE CURRICULUM

This degree explores how psychology and education interact, particularly in the development, identity, and wellbeing of children and young people. It’s ideal for those interested in careers working with children or families in education, psychology, or related fields.In Year 1, you’ll start with foundational modules introducing you to educational philosophy, key psychological theories, and learner diversity. You’ll also explore global education systems, develop academic and professional skills, and gain your first practical experience through a two-week placement. This first year builds a broad understanding of education and psychology, setting the stage for deeper exploration later on.Year 2 deepens your knowledge, focusing on key psychological ideas such as the concept of ‘normal’, resilience in education, identity development, and diversity. You’ll explore how children's and adolescents’ lives are shaped by psychological, social, and cultural forces, including labelling, trauma, and inclusion. You'll also complete a three-week placement and start developing research skills for your dissertation.In the final year, you'll engage with current issues in education and psychology using real-time media and research. You'll carry out a self-chosen dissertation project and undertake a four-week placement. The final year strengthens your practical experience, research skills, and readiness for employment or further study.This course is well suited for students who want to make a difference in education, support young people, and understand human development in context. It blends academic theory with real-world application and personal development through sustained placements.
